(11 May 2001) IDOT will be spending approximately $2.5 million per year in District 1 (Chicago area) for a special SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) consultant, to help locate utilities during the design stage, and coordinate utility efforts at relocating their lines. The SUE consultant for District 1 is the TBE Group of Florida. Additional SUE consultants will be retained for District 4 (Peoria area), and statewide. The $2.5 million amount, in our opinion, is woefully inadequate, but it is better than nothing. Whether utilities will cooperate is another question.
